We meet every Thursday morning from 10 a.m. – Noon.
Numbers attending fluctuate but you can usually find half a dozen of us spinning, knitting or using a variety of fibre in some other creative way. Dyeing fibres, using both natural and commercial dyes is also undertaken from time to time.
We have three spinning wheels for use at the club rooms and this means we only need to bring our own bobbins and fibre to spin. Other members bring their own compact wheels.
We do not hold formal spinning classes but are always happy to teach newcomers to spin either on our wheels or their own.
The group does have basic looms you can learn to weave on but most of our weavers weave on bigger looms at home but bring work they may be ‘finishing’ to meetings and our weekly ‘Show and Tell’. We also have a Library of books you can borrow on a variety of related subjects.
The majority of the group are affiliated to Creative Fibre, which is a nationwide organization of likeminded, enthusiastic people working with fibre in many different ways such as spinning, weaving, felting, dyeing, knitting and crochet to encourage and promote our crafts. It is through Creative Fibre that our members have access to workshops run in both the Northland and Auckland Areas as well as many other related activities such as Spin Ins, Dye Days and Retreats.
We are a sharing and caring group who welcome new members so that our skills and crafts can continue to thrive.
Visit us and see if fibre is your ‘thing’.
