About Painting
The Kowhai Arts & Crafts Painting Group meets on Mondays and on Fridays. Both days start at 10:00 am and most people leave around lunchtime, but there is no set finishing time. Some bring their lunch as we can carry on painting in the afternoon. (there is a lovely sunny court yard out the back of the building).
We are a very diverse group, with members using a range of mediums including acrylics, oils, watercolours and inks, plus charcoal sketchers etc. We have a great camaraderie going within the group and there are both male and female participants and learn a lot from one another, and encourage each other. It gives us great incentive to continue with our craft. We also try to have two or three classes a year, where we invite a tutor along. We try to keep the cost of these as low as possible.
This year we had Elena Nikolaeva who is an excellent tutor on any form of art. Also, our own Bob Simpson has taken a class on drawing and its perspectives. Both were thoroughly enjoyed.
In the summer we have done some plein-air sessions, in and around the local area, (this can be a day-out, with a picnic lunch). It is a truly delightful group to belong to and I heartily recommend it. Some would say it is a social get together, and that’s a plus too.
